Beyoncé Knowles is an Oscar nominee! Finally. While we were pretty certain Lemonade won Best Picture, upon further research, we’ve discovered that’s “not at all how anything works,” and this is her first nomination. No, she didn’t get recognized for “Listen” from Dreamgirls, or for “Spirit” from The Lion King. We are surprised too.

The Grammy winner is being honored for her song “Be Alive” from the movie King Richard, starring Will Smith as the tough but loving father-coach of Venus and Serena Williams. More like “Bey Alive,” right? King Richard, more like Queen Bey, right? Tennis, more like…singing? Sorry, there’s a lot of Oscar news happening, we’re tired. Let’s listen to the song:

Knowles shares the nomination with Dixson, who co-wrote the song.

Now, obviously we are rooting for Beyoncé in everything always, but if one of the other songs takes home the gold, it’ll be understandable because this category is stacked. “Be Alive” is up against “Dos Oruguitas” from Encanto by Lin-Manuel Miranda; “Down to Joy” from Belfast by Van Morrison; “No Time to Die” from No Time to Die by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell; and “Somehow You Do” from Four Good Days by Diane Warren.

It remains to be seen what shape this year’s ceremony will take; last year’s was a pared-down event at Union Station, and no host has been announced for this year…yet. But fingers are extremely crossed that we get live performances of the nominated songs because we really want to see Beyoncé belting on the Academy stage! (Full list of nominees right this way.)

The Oscars will air on ABC at 8 p.m. ET on March 27, 2022. Here’s our guide to streaming the ceremony. In the meantime, it’s not too late to get caught up on the nominated films so you can dominate your awards bracket.

Beyoncé Just Got a Blunt Bob With Bangs, and She Looks So Good https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonce-just-got-a-blunt-bob-with-bangs-and-she-looks-so-good.html Mon, 07 Feb 2022 19:47:45 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonce-just-got-a-blunt-bob-with-bangs-and-she-looks-so-good.html [ad_1]

Throughout the years Beyoncé has been loyal to her long, blonde-highlighted hair. Rarely do we see her with hair anywhere above her shoulders. In fact, one of the shortest looks she has recently worn fell a few inches past her collarbone in an Ivy Park ad in February 2021. But for 2022, Queen Bey is switching it up with a chin-grazing bob and full set of bangs.

She debuted the new hair for yet another Ivy Park ad to promote its sixth collection, which launches on February 9. In one photo posted on the brand’s Instagram, she is seen in an all-red latex outfit with a matching cap. Her blunt bob falls right around her jawline. The hair is completely straight with the ends slightly bumped, framing her face. The fringe stops right above her eyebrows in a blunt cut. We’re not sure if Edna Mode was the inspiration here, but the hair is definitely reminding us of the Incredibles character. Of course, Beyoncé didn’t abandon her signature blonde hair color with this dimensional caramel look.

Short hair wasn’t the only new thing Beyoncé tried. Makeup artist Sir John gave the icon a graphic eyeliner look in a jet-black hue. In addition to her classic cat eye, he added another winged-out line just above her crease. He connected the two wings with a curved, convex line to complete the eye makeup.

Beyoncé with a blunt bob and bangs was definitely not on our 2022 beauty bingo card, but we’re loving every inch of it. The haircut is a welcome change from her usual long hair. We have a good feeling that this bob was probably a one-time look for the Ivy Park ad, but hopefully the Queen will bless us with another short cut one of these days.

Beyoncé Recorded a Song with Blue Ivy and the Twins for Her Mom’s New Talk Show https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonce-recorded-a-song-with-blue-ivy-and-the-twins-for-her-moms-new-talk-show.html Tue, 21 Dec 2021 18:45:07 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonce-recorded-a-song-with-blue-ivy-and-the-twins-for-her-moms-new-talk-show.html [ad_1]

Warning: this jingle performed by Beyoncé and her children will be stuck in your head for up to twelve hours.

Tina Knowles-Lawson, the fashion designer behind the most iconic Destiny’s Child ensembles and mom of Beyoncé and Solange, is launching a new Facebook Watch talk show called Talks With Mama Tina. The host shared a new promo from the series on December 21, with the show’s theme song sung by none other than the Ivy Park mogul herself.

At the beginning of the clip, a gaggle of kids can be heard saying, “let’s talk about it!” before Beyoncé sings, “Tell me how you feel, we can talk about it. Say what’s on your mind, we can talk about it. Simple conversations with no limitations. Come and have a talk with Mama Tina.”

According to People, those voices at the top of the jingle come from Lawson’s own grandchildren, including Beyoncé’s nine-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, four-year-old twins Rumi and Sir, as well as Solange’s 17-year-old son Jules.

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

“Thank you to my baby @beyonce and my beautiful grand babies for making this special theme song for the show,” Lawson acknowledged in the caption.

Over the song, clips from the series show guests like Kelly Rowland and Zendaya chatting on a couch with Lawson. It’s far more hopeful than dramatic, an interesting departure from the Big Emotional Reveal moments so many talk shows use to build buzz. Maybe that’s because this is a limited series: the caption explains that episodes will drop on Facebook throughout the last week of the year, with the finale coming in early January. Guests will include Ciara, Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish, and more. We can’t wait!

There are also quite a few shots of the art and interior design of a sumptuous estate that is, we guess, Lawson’s home in Los Angeles? Can we get a house tour episode, please? That art! Those views!

Beyoncé’s Youngest Daughter, Rumi, Is the Spitting Image of Blue Ivy in New Ivy Park Ad https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonces-youngest-daughter-rumi-is-the-spitting-image-of-blue-ivy-in-new-ivy-park-ad.html Tue, 30 Nov 2021 21:26:25 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonces-youngest-daughter-rumi-is-the-spitting-image-of-blue-ivy-in-new-ivy-park-ad.html [ad_1]

Just in time for the holiday shopping season, Ivy Park dropped its latest collaboration with Adidas. And the accompanying video features Beyoncé with both her daughters, Blue Ivy and Rumi. Obviously, the three look absolutely iconic together.

Titled #HALLSOFIVY, the video puts a new spin on the “Ivy League” collegiate aesthetic, panning over an idyllic New England campus with strings in the background before cutting to models in a combination of houndstooth, plaid, and streetwear playing different sports.

Besides the models, we spotted a number of famous faces in this 90-second video. There’s Natalie Bryant, daughter of Kobe, winking at the camera, and Ava and Deacon Phillippe, children of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, in the Ping-Pong scene. And Brooklyn Nets player James Harden

Of course, Beyoncé herself struts her way in and out of the video in multiple stunning ’fits. But the best moment is when her daughter, Blue Ivy, pushes a rack of basketballs into frame and is then joined by mom Bey holding sister Rumi. It’s around the 52-second mark:

“I know my daughter is watching.  Two daughters and my son, y’all are all watching,” Beyoncé said while accepting a Grammy in March. “Congratulations, Blue. She won a Grammy tonight. I’m so proud of you, and I’m so honored to be your mommy, all of your mommies. Y’all are my babies. And I’m so proud of y’all. I love you so much, my rock…. As an artist, I believe it’s my job, and all of our jobs, to reflect the times. It has been such a difficult time, so I wanted to uplift, encourage, and celebrate all of the beautiful Black queens and kings that continue to inspire me and inspire the whole world. This is so overwhelming. I’ve been working for my whole life, since nine years old, and I can’t believe this happened. This is such a magical night. Thank you so much.”

The 10 Best (and Worst) Beyoncé Songs https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-10-best-and-worst-beyonce-songs.html Fri, 03 Sep 2021 11:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-10-best-and-worst-beyonce-songs.html [ad_1]

The second single from 4 reminds listeners that when romantic relationships don’t work out, it’s for the best. “Best Thing I Never Had” has the same problem as “Halo”—in its quest to be an unbeatable pop ballad on the mass charts, it becomes a duller listen.

3. “Hip Hop Star”

This track should have been a home run. With cameos from Big Boi and Sleepy Brown, “Hip Hop Star” was the perfect platform to show Bey’s sonic and lyrical eclecticism. Instead, Bey’s breathy vocals are sandwiched in between Big Boi’s esoteric bars with metal guitar riffs that feel like they’re thrown in just for the hell of it. Listening to this track is more confusing than fun.

2. “Kitty Kat”

Bey tries so hard to channel a feline alter-ego on this song it’s a surprise it wasn’t featured on her double album I Am…Sasha Fierce. “Kitty Kat” refers to the singer taking her back her “sweet little nookie” from a lover who had no appreciation of it. The video is just as cringeworthy, with Beyoncé donning a sequined leopard-print bodysuit while riding an oversized black cat. An artist taking a creative risk is always valued, but sadly, I think Bey missed the mark with this one.

1. “Beautiful Liar”

Beyoncé has collaborated with a lot of notable pop personalities—Lady Gaga and Megan Thee Stallion, among them—to create fun, playful songs that fit well within her discography. But “Beautiful Liar,” her 2007 song with Shakira, feels cheap and relies too heavily on each artist’s sexual desirability instead of their vocal capabilities. Although the song is about two women finding out they’re involved with the same man, the video treatment consists of both Bey and Shakira rolling around on the floor and mirroring each other’s belly dance moves. This was an incredible opportunity to showcase and celebrate the cultural depth of each artist. Too bad it was squandered.

Beyoncé Just Made History With Her Tiffany & Co. Campaign https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonce-just-made-history-with-her-tiffany-co-campaign.html Mon, 23 Aug 2021 15:30:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonce-just-made-history-with-her-tiffany-co-campaign.html [ad_1]

Beyoncé and Jay Z—the closest thing we have to American royalty—are looking regal (and very hot) as the stars of a new Tiffany & Co campaign called About Love.

In the photos for the luxury jewelers campaign—taken by photographer Mason Poole—Beyoncé wears black gowns that are a modern, iconic interpretation of the one Audrey Hepburn wears in the 1963 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Beyoncé is also styled in mesh gloves, with a hairstyle similar to Holly Golightly’s signature updo but a little more relaxed for 2021.

Mason Poole

Adding to the luxury, the couple is also photographed in front of a never-before-seen Tiffany Blue  painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Equals Pi. According to a press release, the Carters collaborated closely with Tiffany on the campaign. Also significant: Despite their many successful collaborations since 2003’s hit single “Crazy in Love,” this is the first time Beyoncé and Jay-Z have appeared in a campaign together.

The campaign also marks a major moment in fashion history. Beyoncé wears the Tiffany diamond, which weighs 128.54 carats. Since its discovery in 1877, the diamond has only been worn by three other women: Mary Whitehouse (wife of American diplomat Edwin Sheldon Whitehouse), Audrey Hepburn, and Lady Gaga, who wore it at the 2019 Oscars. Beyoncé is the first Black woman to wear it. It is also the first time the diamond has been worn for an advertising campaign.

Mason Poole

Naturally, people have already taken to social media to share their thoughts on the collaboration:

“Beyoncé and JAY-Z are the epitome of the modern love story,” Alexandre Arnault, Tiffany executive vice president of product and communications said, per the release. “As a brand that has always stood for love, strength and self-expression, we could not think of a more iconic couple that better represents Tiffany’s values.”

In addition to the photos, the About Love campaign will include a film shot by Jay Z with a cover of “Moon River” sung by Beyoncé; it officially launches in September.

Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Are Twinning in This New Ivy Park Ad https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonce-and-blue-ivy-are-twinning-in-this-new-ivy-park-ad.html Wed, 11 Aug 2021 19:41:51 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonce-and-blue-ivy-are-twinning-in-this-new-ivy-park-ad.html [ad_1]

Ivy Park and Adidas just announced their first line of clothing for kids—and as cute as some of the pieces are, they’re nothing compared with Beyoncé horsin’ around with her three kids, Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir, in the new ad.

In the spot, which dropped August 11, Blue Ivy and Bey are twinning, wearing cow-print leggings, a purple pullover hoodie, and gray sneakers. Sir and Rumi appear in a separate shot with their mama, as well. The whole video is ranch-slash-barnyard-themed (okay, technically rodeo), which honestly reminds me of the time Bey collaborated with The Chicks at the 2016 CMAs. Remember their performance of “Daddy Lessons”?

Beyoncé opened up to Harper’s Bazaar about the inspiration behind Ivy Park’s current rodeo aesthetic. “This collection is a mixture of my childhood growing up in Texas and a bit of American history,” she said. “I grew up going to the Houston rodeo every year. It was this amazing diverse and multicultural experience where there was something for every member of the family, including great performances, Houston-style fried Snickers, and fried turkey legs. One of my inspirations came from the overlooked history of the American Black cowboy. Many of them were originally called cowhands, who experienced great discrimination and were often forced to work with the worst, most temperamental horses. They took their talents and formed the Soul Circuit. Through time, these Black rodeos showcased incredible performers and helped us reclaim our place in Western history and culture. We were inspired by the culture and swag of the Houston rodeo. We combined classic elements with the athleticwear of Ivy Park x Adidas, adding our own spin, monogrammed denim, chaps, and cowhide.”

She continued, “I’m excited that Ivy Park x Adidas will now feature kids’ clothing with this drop. On our family vacations, we love to coordinate our outfits. My kids are usually on set with me for shoots, and we’d find ourselves putting them in extra-extra-smalls so we could match. So it is a natural progression for Ivy Park to introduce a selection of key silhouettes in children’s sizing.”

Beyoncé Reveals the Incredible Reason Her ‘Single Ladies’ Video Is Black-and-White https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonce-reveals-the-incredible-reason-her-single-ladies-video-is-black-and-white.html Tue, 10 Aug 2021 14:10:23 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonce-reveals-the-incredible-reason-her-single-ladies-video-is-black-and-white.html [ad_1]

Everyone remembers Beyoncé’s iconic 2008 music video for “Single Ladies.” The choreography! The leotards! The continuous shots, all filmed in black-and-white! It’s easily one of the best music videos ever made, and Bey offered some details about it in her new cover interview with Harper’s Bazaar. Turns out, there’s a specific reason Beyoncé chose to have the video made in black-and-white.

“I remember being in a meeting discussing analytics, and I was told the research discovered that my fans did not like when my photography was black-and-white,” Bey told the magazine. “They told me I wouldn’t sell if it wasn’t in color. That was ridiculous. It pissed me off that an agency could dictate what my fans wanted based on a survey. Who did they ask? How is it possible to generalize people this much? Are these studies accurate? Are they fair? Are all the people I’m trying to uplift and shine a light on included? They’re not. It triggered me when I was told, ‘These studies show….’”

She continued, “I was so exhausted and annoyed with these formulaic corporate companies that I based my whole next project off of black-and-white photography, including the videos for ‘Single Ladies’ and ‘If I Were a Boy,’ and all of the artwork by Peter Lindbergh for I Am…Sasha Fierce, which ended up being my biggest commercial success to date. I try to keep the human feeling and spirit and emotion in my decision making.”

I’m sure that’s the last time anyone told Beyoncé how to create her music. And if you’re curious, yes, more is coming—soon.

She shared with Bazaar, “With all the isolation and injustice over the past year, I think we are all ready to escape, travel, love, and laugh again. I feel a renaissance emerging, and I want to be part of nurturing that escape in any way possible. I’ve been in the studio for a year and a half. Sometimes it takes a year for me to personally search through thousands of sounds to find just the right kick or snare. One chorus can have up to 200 stacked harmonies. Still, there’s nothing like the amount of love, passion, and healing that I feel in the recording studio. After 31 years, it feels just as exciting as it did when I was nine years old. Yes, the music is coming!”

Zendaya’s 2021 BET Awards Dress Was an Homage to Beyoncé https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/zendayas-2021-bet-awards-dress-was-an-homage-to-beyonce.html Mon, 28 Jun 2021 13:15:34 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/zendayas-2021-bet-awards-dress-was-an-homage-to-beyonce.html [ad_1]

At the 2021 BET Awards on June 27, legend-in-the-making Zendaya wore an outfit that honored the one and only Beyoncé. The young star dressed in a purple Versace gown that’s essentially the red carpet equivalent of the mini-dress Bey wore during her BET Awards performance 18 years ago.

Zendaya’s look came courtesy of her stylist, Law Roach, who posted a video of the Emmy winner strutting in slow-motion to his Instagram. He wrote, “Paying homage to the Queen Beyoncé wearing @versace SS2003 ….. get you a stylist with an ARCHIVE!!!!” Okay, yes! But also, get me a stylist in general.

The comments on the post were filled with praise for the look, including from Zendaya’s Euphoria costar Hunter Schaefer, who wrote, “I’m dead.” Actor Tracee Ellis Ross, meanwhile, commented, “???? as per usual!!!! Yessss!!!!!” On one of Zendaya’s own posts, actor Storm Reid mused, “I wonder what it feels like to be God’s favorite,” and that’s truly the question on my mind as well.

In another post, Roach revealed the look was completed by a pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes and Bulgari yellow diamonds.

Shall we revisit the iconic BET Awards performance Bey gave in the short, pleated version of this dress? In 2003 she and her husband, Jay-Z, performed “Crazy in Love,” the first single off her debut album, Dangerously in Love. Both the song and the album reached number one on Billboard.

Side note: Can you believe Bey was only, like, 21 during this? So talented, I can’t.

We know Zendaya has been a member of the Bey Hive for years. In a conversation with Yara Shahidi in 2017, the Malcolm & Marie star praised the singer, saying, “Beyoncé. She took it to the next level with Lemonade. She’s got twins, and she’s banging. She’s killing it.” Hot take? You both are! Please duet!
