We may be in 2022, but some of the most divisive trends of the ’80s are still popping in a major way—XXL scrunchies being the latest example. Cool girls are rocking mullets, animal print reigns supreme, and blue eye shadow is back in a big way, but somehow scrunchies may be the most divisive among this list of trends. The scrunchie revival isn’t exactly new—celebrities and designers brought the fun hair accessory back in the late 2010s. But now scrunchies are (literally) bigger than ever—and if you haven’t yet jumped on the “oversized” bandwagon, there’s no better time than now.

Room Shop Vintage, founded by a husband-and-wife duo in Philadelphia, is credited with introducing giant scrunchies to an Instagram feed near you. The accessories, made out of deadstock satin or organza, popped up across It girl posts in early 2020, and as we make our way into spring, they’ve made a reappearance too big to ignore.

Influencers are wrapping the delicate fabric around their wrists, using scrunchies to adorn low ponies, and lacing them into chignons. If everything you’re coming across online feels too much like a throwback to Claire’s, we found the perfect plush, oversized scrunchies you’re looking for. Ahead, find out where to buy XXL scrunchies that are equal parts cool and darling.

Rihanna Swears By Fenty Beauty’s New $20 Red Lipstick https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/rihanna-swears-by-fenty-beautys-new-20-red-lipstick.html Thu, 17 Feb 2022 15:10:15 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/rihanna-swears-by-fenty-beautys-new-20-red-lipstick.html [ad_1]

When Rihanna isn’t turning heads in yet another jaw-dropping pregnancy look, the Fenty Beauty founder is busy curating new products and designs for her namesake brands. The moment we were invited to chat with the star and business mogul at her #FClub party in Los Angeles, we jumped to RSVP. After all, it was the first time that all three of Rihanna’s beauty ventures, Fenty Beauty, Fenty Skin, and Fenty Eau de Parfum (Fenty Hair is TBD!), would be under the same roof.

Earlier this month, the Fenty Beauty founder (and icon herself) unveiled the new Fenty Icon lipstick, which is the brand’s first refillable product. “We want to be as earth-conscious as possible, and being refillable is just one of the ways that we can do that,” she tells Glamour. “It’s also very convenient for the consumer to be able to pop their favorite color into one packet, bring it on the go, and apply it on the fly.”

Packaging aside, the semi-matte lipstick shades are gorgeous and comfortable enough for all-day wearing. The entire collection features a palette of 10 different reds and nudes, so her fans have something to wear for any occasion. It’s also formulated with super hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid and vitamins C and E to achieve a supple pout after each swipe. Rihanna curated the hues based on different moods, and of course, we just had to learn more about her faves. (Fun fact: the lipstick bullet was made to fit Rihanna’s infamous cupid’s bow.)

“I actually just wore Board Memb’r to a business meeting,” she says about the cabernet-like shade. It’s moodier than your traditional red lipstick and bossy enough for sitting in the C-suite. But, her all-time go-to Icon shade is MVP—a fire engine red packed with a punch of color. “I mean MVP is a red you can wear anywhere,” she says. RiRi’s well aware that she can pull off any look at any time (hello, sharp bobs and red eyeliner!), and a bold lip is no exception. “I’ll wear this on a date night, a girl’s night out, and honestly, I’ll even wear this to brunch—don’t play with me,” she adds.

As someone who’s pretty much a walking beauty mood board, Rihanna must get inspiration for her own routine from somewhere, right? The mom-to-be tells us that her skin is her number one priority these days, and that’s influencing whatever she puts on her body. And, of course, she’s leaning on Fenty Skin for her day-to-day regime. “A huge, huge thing for me these days is staying moisturized from head to toe,” she says. “I’m using the Butta Drop Whipped Oil Body Cream all over, and I’m also using the Instant Reset Overnight Recovery Cream on my face because it’s really dry right now.”

However, Rihanna emphasizes that beauty products aside, true beauty inspiration comes from within. “You can put makeup on, but feeling beautiful really comes from the inside, and your skin just happens to glow through that.”

Julian Addo Drops Her Skin-Care Routine https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/julian-addo-drops-her-skin-care-routine.html Tue, 08 Feb 2022 20:10:05 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/julian-addo-drops-her-skin-care-routine.html [ad_1]

Julian Addo is a firm believer in products that work. It’s a simple thing to ask, but in today’s beauty landscape it’s hard to find quality over frills. This, paired with the fact that she didn’t feel there was truly a brand that understood natural hair, is what drove Addo to launch her brand Adwoa Beauty in 2017. With over 10 years of experience in the hair industry—as a stylist, salon owner and blogger, plus a career in banking—Addo was armed with the knowledge needed to create a brand that properly cares for not only curls, but all hair types. The line combines the best of nature and science to enhance customers’ unique textures, and the straightforward line is easy to use—each product has a clear purpose and place in your routine.

When it comes to skin care, Addo tries to keep a similarly streamlined POV. “I honestly try to keep it as simple as possible,” she tells Glamour. “Skin care can be a really confusing and cluttered space with regards to a product and all of the things on the market. The acids and all different ingredients can really damage your skin if you don’t know what you’re doing. So I’ve been using a lot of the same products since I was 16. I stick to the basics.”

For Addo however, the basics don’t just mean cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF. She’s a major fan of exfoliation—she uses a chemical exfoliant twice a day—and anything that promises to brighten. “My skin is prone to hyperpigmentation,” she says. “Obviously, I’m more melanated, and if I get a pimple, if I don’t touch it and it just goes away on it’s own, it still leaves a scar. So I’m always trying to brighten something on my face.”

So what exactly does she swear by? Read on for the exfoliators Addo’s been using for years, the best sheet mask on the market, and the moisturizer that makes her look like a shining star in another installment of Glamour’s Drop the Routine

My cleansers

For cleansers, I cleanse day and night. I have super-oily skin. In the daytime I’ll just use something very gentle. I like the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser; it does the job of just getting the night off of my skin, but not really stripping my skin, and helps it feel really moisturized. And then in the night time I’ll switch to something that gives me a little bit more work. I like  The Inkey List salicylic acid cleanser. And then I always follow with the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant—I have a lot of scarring that I’m trying to get rid of, so anything that brightens and exfoliates and removes scars, that’s what I’m going to buy.

Fresh Soy Makeup Removing Face Wash

My toners

For toner I’ve been really loving One Thing; it’s a Korean brand. It’s kind of like K-beauty’s version of The Ordinary, because it’s a great price point, and this is a very simple-one ingredient product.  I found it on Instagram a couple years ago, and I used the Centella Asiatica Extract; it helps, again, to fade scars. So after I cleanse my face, I’ll just add a little bit on the cotton ball and just kind of wipe it all over my face day and night. And that’s the only thing that I do for a toner.

My face mask

I don’t really use essence a lot unless I’m doing a face mask. If I’m doing one, I love Too Cool for School; it’s another K-beauty brand. I think their Egg Cream Mask is the best mask on the market. There’s no sheet mask that is superior, in my opinion. They give you so much essence in the packet, and I’ll do that twice a week, and I’ll put the essence all over my face and all over my neck. You don’t want to forget your neck!

My serum

I like the Rose Ingleton MD Complexion Brightening Booster Serum. It helps with brightening your complexion and scarring.

My exfoliators

A staple in my routine for forever is these two liquid exfoliators. One is uber popular Paula’s Choice 2% BHA. I love that in the daytime, it gives me a dewy glow. And then another cult favorite that I use at nighttime, which is a similar product, a little bit different, is the Biologique Recherche Lotion P50v 1970. I use both everyday, which I know surprises everyone! My skin can take a lot. I don’t really use anything specific for spot treatments, but that P50 really helps, I’ll put it on my skin if I have a breakout, and when I wake up in the morning, the breakout is no longer protruding.

My moisturizers

I use that P50 at night, so my skin is getting a lot of exfoliating. So I like to go in at night with something super, super heavy. And for the last several years I’ve been loving the Weleda Skin Food. I go to bed looking like a shining star. I’ll  plaster it all over my face, under my eyes, everywhere. And I’ll go to bed with that.

For day moisturizers I’m currently loving Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream. I alternate that and the Rose Ingleton MD Signature Moisturizer; I really love her moisturizer as well. I always use something lighter in the day, because I use that heavy Weleda Skin Food at night. So I just go for a light, light finish in the daytime. But I do pair it with the Flora + Bast Age Adapting Facial Serum with CBD. It says “serum,” but it’s an oil. I’ll put that on first, and then my moisturizer is last.

My eye cream

I really haven’t found an eye cream that I love. I was playing around with the Tatcha Peony Eye Cream, but I don’t know. I haven’t really found anything that I noticed a difference. I have dark sunken-in undereyes—I don’t have the puffiness. Mine is sunken in, and it’s hereditary. So I was told there’s nothing I can do about it besides Botox. I just make sure that that area is moisturized since it’s so thin. I’ll use the Weleda at night, to be honest.

My SPF

I love the Unseen Sunscreen from Supergoop. I love the brand, and I’ll use that daily because most days I’m not wearing any makeup. And then on some days that I want something a little bit more, I like the Tower 28 Beauty SunnyDays SPF tinted sunscreen, I really love that. If I just want to look a little bit more put-together that day, I’ll use that.

My lip balm

I’m obsessed over the Lanolips salves. All flavors—coconut, strawberry, I have them all! I do like the Laneige lip mask, and there’s also a lip mask by One Thing, that K-beauty brand that I use at night. Got to keep the lips moisturized!

My treatments

I have started going to an aesthetician for a lot of chemical peels and facials. Just something a little bit more and faster than all these products can do.

Cher Has Never Been Afraid to Break the Rules https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/cher-has-never-been-afraid-to-break-the-rules.html Thu, 06 Jan 2022 18:06:24 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/cher-has-never-been-afraid-to-break-the-rules.html [ad_1]

The word “icon” gets tossed around a lot these days, but if there’s someone truly worthy of the title, it’s Cher. The legendary singer and actor has been one of our premier entertainers since the ’60s, and has been considered a beauty icon for just as long. There’s no denying her signature jet black hair and glittering eye makeup are just as influential as her pioneering use of autotune.

We currently appreciate Cher’s beauty looks for her boldness and glamour, but that hasn’t always been the case. According to Cher, her makeup and outfits were misunderstood for years, and people looked at her like she was crazy. The one place where she always felt understood was the MAC makeup counter.

“I’ve had a very, very long relationship with MAC,” Cher tells Glamour. “The first time I ever saw MAC, I just remember looking at everything because it’s a lot, it’s an eye-full. And I thought, this is like a candy store for makeup. I was fascinated, too, by the range of colors because it was very difficult to find at the time. I mean, I remember in the ’60s, I was making eye makeup on a double boiler. So, I guess for people who were into makeup, it was like paint by the numbers.”

It only makes sense that she’s partnered with the brand for a new campaign, alongside Gen Z icon, Saweetie.  In honor of the campaign, we caught up with Cher for a round of Glamour’s Big Beauty Questions. Read on for her must-have products, thoughts on beauty standards, and why her mom will always be her biggest inspiration.

Glamour: What’s one beauty rule you swear by?

Cher: I don’t swear by any rules, because think that it cuts down on the creativity. When I started, everyone thought that my makeup was crazy. And I thought it was beautiful. I think that you just limit yourself when you think about rules. I don’t think girls do today, because there’s such a wide range of what we now think of this beauty. Limitations don’t seem to go anymore.

Is there a beauty rule that you think is B.S.?

I think all of them are. You know why? Because there should not be… When you’re trying to be creative, if you’re writing a song or you’re acting, or whatever, you don’t put rules on creativity. It doesn’t work.

What is the best beauty advice you’ve ever gotten?

I didn’t get advice. I lived in a house full of women who were models and all I did was watch them. I watched my mother and her friends put on makeup every day. They each had a mirror, they all had a spot in the dining room, which had no table. Everyone would put their mirror up, so they were facing the light and put their makeup on. That’s basically how I started. And then, I did this thing that I thought was beautiful, which was not accepted at the time. But, sometimes you’re ahead of it. When I started, people were nervous about following certain rules. Like, if you were a certain age, you had to cut your hair and pick cotton leather shoes. A bunch of bullshit rules that I never understood.

How did you get the confidence to break those rules?

I didn’t know how not to. I didn’t think of them. What I thought was, these things don’t apply to me. Because dressing differently, Sonny and I looked crazy to a lot of people. They didn’t like us. They had a visceral reaction because we looked so different. You have to go back and look at our early pictures because no one looked like us.

I’ve seen them. They’re iconic. Well, now you’re on every mood board. So, it just goes to show that you always knew.

Well, I didn’t always know. I always tried.

Sonny & Cher in 1965.

Silver Screen Collection/Getty

Let’s say you can only use three beauty products for the rest of your life, what are they and why?

Well, that’s not going to happen. I need four, okay? If we’re going to continue this relationship, you need to give me four.

I will bend the rules for you.

So, I need eyebrow pencil. Oh God, I could have used so many more. All right, I need an eyebrow pencil, I need blush, I need lipstick, and an eyelash curler. Because I think that, first of all, you have to frame your face with your eyebrows. And my mom always said, “If you were on a desert island, make sure you have an eyelash curler.” I mean, lipstick I think, is a necessity. Even if you blot your lipstick, so it’s faint, you still need that color.

What’s your favorite way to take a moment for yourself?

I have very few moments. I like listening to audio books, and I like doing my meditation. But, I like hanging down and just listening to these books. And I used to read like crazy, but I enjoy being read to. The best book I’ve listened to lately is a book about Clementine Churchill. And it just shows that without her, we probably would all be speaking German.

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

If you could change one thing about beauty standards, what would you want to change?

I don’t feel there should be beauty standards. I just don’t like it. I remember when there were really harsh ones. Richard Alleman [the actor] who I love, told me, “You’ll never be on the cover of Vogue,” And I said, “Well, why?” He said, “Because you have to have blonde hair and blue eyes. Blonde hair and brown eyes. Dark hair and blue eyes. If you have black hair and brown eyes, you’ll never be on the cover.” And then one day, I was. It was by accident.

Who are the women who are inspiring you the most right now?

Well, I’m OG. My mom still inspires me because she’s 95, and she’s still really beautiful. All my girlfriends hate her because she has this perfect skin and a mane of hair. My mom has a mane and it’s ridiculous. We all just look at her. She’s my go-to. And you know what? I do think Saweetie’s beautiful. I was so fascinated by her fingernails. But, she is absolutely beautiful, and a positive young girl. I think she would be an inspiration to me.

Pro Race Car Driver Samantha Tan Drops Her Skin-Care Routine https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/pro-race-car-driver-samantha-tan-drops-her-skin-care-routine.html Wed, 05 Jan 2022 17:30:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/pro-race-car-driver-samantha-tan-drops-her-skin-care-routine.html [ad_1]

Samantha Tan considers herself a beauty lover, but the professional race car driver’s introduction to skin care was less than enjoyable.

“One of my most vivid memories from childhood, unfortunately, was when I was in kindergarten and my eczema used to be terrible,” Tan tells me over the phone. “It was all over my face and the skin above my lips used to always be raw. The other kids used to think I was contagious, even though obviously eczema is not contagious. It’s something that stayed with me for a long time. I would always wear long-sleeved clothes and long pants. I never wanted to show my skin. Even up until now, I’m still learning how to accept my scars.”

She adds, cheerily, “It’s part of me, and I got to learn to love it.” That same infectious optimism shines through when Tan discusses her successful career. In 2021, Samantha Tan Racing made history by becoming the first Canadian team to win the renowned 24H DUBAI; she also became the first Asian woman to win a major endurance racing series championship in the world.

“I think representation is just so, so important,” she says of the win. “It’s so monumental. It’s so important for people to people of color to see that their stories and voices are heard and for me to be the first one is amazing, but I also don’t want to be the last one.”

Tan is so passionate about encouraging others to follow in her footsteps, in fact, that she even agreed to share the secret to her skin care. Read on for Glamour’s latest Drop the Routine

My cleansers

To take off my makeup, I use a micellar water. Even if you’re drunk and tired, you just got to do it. And that’s funny because every time, somehow, when I get home—blackout drunk sometimes—I’m able to still take off my makeup. [Laughs.] I use the Bioderma one, which was recommended to me by my aunt, and then I’ll go in with the CeraVe, which I definitely found because of TikTok. I also use the FOREO Luna Mini.

Sarah Shatz

“This is the first time where I play a character that is so quirky and so off-beat and so close to who I am that I don’t get to show,” Good says. “Every single character is someone that I haven’t quite seen represented this way. Even though it is a show that is centered around Black women—and there are a few of them—they’re really, really unique.”

For this edition of Wash Day Diaries, she walks us through her favorite products to keep her natural hair healthy and moisturized.

Shampoo

My hair is currently blonde. I’m using a shampoo and conditioner from a young Black woman who owns her own company, OrganiGrowHairCo. She has the best products. The purple shampoo is so amazing because it keeps my hair super hydrated and protects against breakage.

Purple Growpoo Purple Shampoo

Deep Conditioner

Dr. Kari, who does my goddess locks, and Jasmine Ashley, who does my blonde looks, both have products from their lines and have deep-conditioning treatments. Jasmine’s is called Bathe Oil, and she puts that in the actual bowl with the bleach that she uses for blonde hair. And then afterward, I use it once in a while as upkeep. During the pandemic I was really trying to grow my hair out to bob length. I used the Bathe Oil, and my hair started going like crazy—it was insane. She makes it at home and does everything in her living room. It’s dope.

Bathe Indian Hair Oil

Jasmine Ashley Collection

Hair Tools

I usually will blow-dry my hair a little bit. Hot Tools has a lot of great products that have worked for me. And then I will use my pressing comb to get my edges and my flatiron, which is from Jasmine Ashley.

Hot Tools Ionic Ceramic Salon Hair Dryer

1 1/2″ Titanium Flatiron

$150$25

Jasmine Ashley Collection

Edge Control

The Bed Head stick is really amazing when I want to lay down my sides. I don’t use a lot of products, but it’s nice to use something where you can use a very little bit and it’ll just do the job you want it to do.

Baby Powder

I try not to put too much product in my hair because I like it when it’s natural and not necessarily clean. I love when it collects it with natural oils, but I try not to put too much in it. When it starts to collect oils, I use straight up a little baby powder to pull the oil out of it, and an open bristle brush. A lot of dry shampoos are sprays or they have a wetness to them, but I can’t really do that because my hair is naturally curly.

Hair Wrap

I came up with the idea for Good Girl Wraps after I found a headwrap that was probably 15 years old that I had never used and was like, “Oh, this might be able to little hold my locs.” I was struggling with working out. Every time I put my hair in a bun, it would come down when I did certain workouts and get in my face. At night, I couldn’t sleep comfortably; or, if my hair got in my face, it would break out my forehead or cheeks. So I used this wrap, and it just fit the bill. As I was doing workout videos, people were like, “What, what is this wrap? Where did you get by? Where can I get one?”

That conversation persisted for about a year, and I had no idea where I got it. So I decided to create my own in the same shape, but I created it so that it could acclimate to your body’s temperature. If you’re hot because you’re working out, it will cool your head down. If you’re cold, it’ll warm your head. I wanted it to be satin and silk, and something that would prevent breakage and lock in moisture and all of these things. It really took off during the pandemic because so many nurses had dreads, locs, braids, and even just curly hair that is big. They needed to tie it up in a way that was comfortable and wasn’t going to hurt their head or give them a headache.

For Gigi Gorgeous, Nail Art Is More Than an Accessory https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/for-gigi-gorgeous-nail-art-is-more-than-an-accessory.html Wed, 08 Dec 2021 17:11:05 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/for-gigi-gorgeous-nail-art-is-more-than-an-accessory.html [ad_1]

I love my hair because I’m blonde and it’s thick.

You can only use three beauty products for the rest of your life. What are they and why?

Definitely a hydrating moisturizer, 100%— right now I’m obsessed with the La Mer Moisturizing Cream. Definitely a leave-in conditioner, I use one from Matrix that’s an extension detangler/leave in, it leaves my hair so soft. And then it’s all about hydration, so a body oil. I’m obsessed with this coconut body oil, it comes in a little tube but I wish they made it in a jumbo size. I love it.

Matrix Total Results Length Goals Perfector Leave-In Heat Protectant and Styling Spray

What’s your go-to getting ready music?

I actually love rock, even screamo, I’m so obsessed. But also on the same note, I love Avril Lavigne or Ariana Grande. I’m kind of all over.

What’s your favorite way to take a moment for yourself?

Doing my makeup, it’s like my therapy.

What’s your power perfume?

I’m such a Viktor & Rolf Flower Bomb girl through and through. That’s my signature scent. It just makes me feel beautiful.

What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever received?

The best beauty advice I’ve ever received is that it comes from within. As much as we put on our face and dress up and stuff, you can look the worst ever, but if you have good energy and good confidence, I think that really resonates with people. I guess just to not take it too seriously. Just smile!

What’s the last Instagram or TikTok rabbit hole you went down?

Oh god, it’s this girl called Trailer Trash Tammy. She’s a comedian, and I didn’t know she was an actual comedian. I thought she was just an internet girl, but she is so funny and she’s so vulgar and I watched maybe like 50 of her videos last night. She’s hilarious. I don’t even know if she’s going to make it in the magazine cause she’s X-rated, but she’s so funny.

You have $20 in your pocket and you’re let loose in the drug store. What are you buying?

Probably chocolate, makeup wipes, since I could always use more of those, lashes, and a leave-in conditioner.

If you could change anything about beauty perceptions in Hollywood or the industry, what would you want to change?

I think I would just want to change traditional beauty, because I have so many friends that are so beautiful and I feel like the world is opening up to a lot of them. I have a friend Gottmik, and he is so unconventionally beautiful. His kind of drag is shaking the world and I feel like people are really opening up. I wish that that was more normal and overflowing in Hollywood.

Who are the women who are inspiring you the most right now?

Well my fellow bride Paris Hilton, I’m obsessed with her. I’m so happy that she got married and is living her life.  And Lady Gaga, always. House of Gucci was epic, I went to the premiere. It’s so good and she’s so funny. She’s very inspiring to me.
