May 22: Well, not entirely. Sluss couldn’t resist the bait when fellow Bachelor Nation alum Nick Viall brought Peter up in her Instagram comments. On May 21, Sluss posted a couple of bikini shots on Instagram with the caption, “Got my eye on the prize.” Viall got cheeky in the comments, suggesting that she should have captioned the photo “Dear Peter.”

“As far as captions go…‘Dear Peter’…would have been a home run,” he wrote. Sluss replied that he “nailed it.”

September 2: And you thought she was done… “I feel like I’m on my third life now. Prior to the show was one life and then the show was my second life, being engaged included, and now I’m on my third life living in Los Angeles, being single and kind of just making the most out of this new life,” the 24-year-old told Us Weekly in a new interview. “It’s just it’s truly been crazy. To think that I was like, engaged, probably getting married this fall, it just blows my mind. I’m like, ‘Oh, thank you, Lord!’”

She continued, “I think if [Peter and I] would have made it through, you know, the first year, I think we would have made it. I don’t know, I think that’s just me being positive. The show is just really stressful, especially having to watch all that back. I feel like we would have made it through that, we would have definitely gotten married and made it through it because we both have family values, but I think sometimes it’s not about meeting the right person, sometimes it’s about the right time and place.”

She admitted, “We just weren’t at the right time or place. And we’re not the right people for each other either, but you know what I mean.”

November 17, 2021: Following Hannah Brown’s reveal in her new book that she hooked up with Pete Weber while his season of The Bachelor was still airing (and that it wasn’t great), Sluss seemingly took to TikTok to make her feelings known.

“When the tea officially spills…” she wrote over her video lip-syncing to the TikTok sound, “That was embarrassing. I really hope you’re embarrassed. Wow.”

She captioned the post, “always trust your instincts ladies.”

Daniel Radcliffe Has a Second Career as a Bachelor Nation Recap-er https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/daniel-radcliffe-has-a-second-career-as-a-bachelor-nation-recap-er.html Thu, 09 Sep 2021 21:44:27 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/daniel-radcliffe-has-a-second-career-as-a-bachelor-nation-recap-er.html [ad_1]

“That is the last refuge of so many men,” Daniel Radcliffe spits, partway through his tour-de-force guest role on the Bachelor Nation recap podcast Love to See It. His tone is slick with disdain, mimicking a male contestant on Bachelor in Paradise: “You’re entitled to your opinion.”

Daniel Radcliffe: recovered child star, versatile performer, and armchair psychologist to Bachelor Nation.

Very few things right now provide pure, potent joy, but we have here an exception: 101 minutes of Bachelor in Paradise analysis from Daniel Radcliffe and his longtime girlfriend, actor Erin Darke. Together with Love to See It hosts Emma Gray and Claire Fallon, they spend an episode dissecting the seventh week of the summertime Bachelor in Paradise series.

It’s hard to convey the sincerity and enthusiasm with which Daniel Radcliffe goes frame-by-frame through the two week-seven episodes of Bachelor in Paradise. He sighs, groans, releases yelps of passion, and finishes the other hosts’ sentences. At several points, he hearkens back to plot lines from earlier seasons to scaffold his complex theories and arguments. Most importantly—at risk of setting the bar at toe-ring level for male celebrities—he doesn’t interrupt. He listens actively. He shares genuine laughter with the other hosts and Darke.

His investment never seems feigned. After all, who better than a person who has been watched every moment of his adult life to weigh in on a reality show, a genre about people submitting to being observed? Radcliffe also mentions, several times throughout the episode that he is a devotee of the dating show Love Island. This is not a man who dabbles. Daniel Radcliffe loves reality TV.

“There were moments where it got so awkward that Dan had to cover his ears and duck out of the room,” Darke says, of watching the episodes as a couple. Darke, who should not be discounted just because she was never a wide-eyed boy wizard, is also a worthy critic and important member of the Bachelor Nation intelligentsia.

Cementing his status as “one of the only celebrities it would actually be nice to spend time with in real life,” Radcliffe gives a gorgeously thorough breakdown of the state of affairs in Paradise. Here are some of his best points:

On Grocery Store Joe, Serena, and Kendall:

“I can’t think of another three people off the top of my head that you could shove into a love triangle who would have dealt with it that well. Everybody did the best they could in a really, really awkward situation.”

On Demi’s attempt to seduce Kenny:

“To be tearfully asked if you want to have sex…[regretful sigh].”

On Brendan and Pieper’s machinations:

“They were talking like two criminals trying to get their story straight!”

On the twin love triangles (Chris, Jessenia, and Alana, vs. Brendan, Natasha, and Pieper)

“Clearly no one likes Chris. For whatever reason, the people have taken against him—they have no loyalty to him. Because the vast canyon between how they treat Chris—and who knows, maybe the next episode is going to start with them [confronting Brendan and Natasha] being like, ‘You guys have to leave, too.’ But Joe and Riley, I loved that whole conversation when they [confront Chris], but the fact that there was none of that for Brendan can only be because, yeah, there’s nobody that has any loyalty to [Chris].”

‘Bachelor in Paradise’ Season 7: Everything We Know https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/bachelor-in-paradise-season-7-everything-we-know.html Wed, 09 Jun 2021 20:34:06 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/bachelor-in-paradise-season-7-everything-we-know.html [ad_1]

The Bachelor franchise’s fun beachside iteration Bachelor in Paradise isn’t going anywhere, despite a recent controversy that culminated in Chris Harrison leaving his job. And while fans eagerly wait for their favorite messy summer show to return, here’s everything we know about what to expect.

Where is it being filmed?

The show went into production in Mexico the first week of June, per Variety.

Who is hosting?

Harrison only officially left his role in June but has been on leave for some time after mishandling a controversial racial incident from a contestant’s past. He reflected on his time with the franchise on Instagram, writing, “I’ve had a truly incredible run as host of The Bachelor franchise and now I’m excited to start a new chapter. I’m so grateful to Bachelor Nation for all of the memories we’ve made together. While my two-decade journey is wrapping up, the friendships I’ve made will last a lifetime.”

Now BiP will have a rotating series of guest hosts, led by Bachelor super-fan David Spade. Seriously, if you go over to his Instagram, he has a ton of saved Highlights of himself providing commentary on the show. Other hosts will include *NSYNC’s Lance Bass, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s Tituss Burgess, and “Turn Down for What” rapper Lil Jon. This sounds like literally the most fun party of all time. (Fun facts: Lil Jon appeared on season 14 during one of Becca Kufrin’s one-on-one dates.)

Who are the contestants?

We don’t know yet, but we do know a few familiar faces will be there: Wells Adams—a former Bachelorette contestant who became a fan-favorite and, eventually, the Bachelor in Paradise bartender—and his fiancée, Modern Family actor Sarah Hyland, will appear in some capacity during the season. Maybe as joint bartenders? How iconic.

This post will be updated when more information is available.

Kelley Flanagan Told Bachelor Peter Weber to ‘Get the Hell Out of My Life’ After Breakup https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/kelley-flanagan-told-bachelor-peter-weber-to-get-the-hell-out-of-my-life-after-breakup.html Sat, 22 May 2021 20:48:53 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/kelley-flanagan-told-bachelor-peter-weber-to-get-the-hell-out-of-my-life-after-breakup.html [ad_1]

The on-and-off relationship between former Bachelor star Peter Weber and contestant Kelley Flanagan seems to be over for good.

After an official breakup announcement in December 2020 and a Super Bowl reunion in February 2021, Flanagan is opening up about their final split and why things ended on “really bad terms” shortly after reconnecting.

“It ended really badly,” she said on the Chicks in the Office podcast on May 21, per People. “I essentially went off on him. I ended up leaving New York and going to one of my girlfriend’s houses and hanging out with her. He texted me, I didn’t respond and then found some news out that I wasn’t happy about. We still had each other on Find My Friends, we were closing it out, it was ending but still wasn’t necessarily done.”

While Flanagan says she eventually told Weber to “get the hell out of my life” and “lose my number,” the reality star pilot reached out “the other day.”

“I’m just not responsive,” Flanagan said. “There’s a lot of things that you hear. This world is very small. I even get stopped by girls in Nashville and they’re like, ‘My friend hooked up with Peter last week!'”

Francisco Roman/Getty Images

During his infamous season of The Bachelor, Flanagan didn’t even make it past week six. Weber proposed to Hannah Ann Sluss at the end of his season, then called off the engagement and dated runner-up Madison Prewett for a minute. It wasn’t until the 2020 Super Bowl that Weber and Flanagan reconnected and began dating. Though Weber’s mom Barb was clearly a fan of Flanagan, things didn’t last.

“Obviously, I wish her well and everything. I just want her to be happy, more than anything, but…we’re not in contact anymore,” Weber told E! News in April 2021. “But definitely, I’m always rooting for her and want her to find her happiness.”

While that might be true, Kelley Flanagan had plenty more to say about him during the podcast interview. “He loves Pokémon cards and he loves playing video games and he loves going out and partying,” she said. “There was a while where I was trying to convince myself that that’s what I liked and I was like, ‘Alright, Kelley, let’s be honest with yourself. Does that add up for you?’ “

She also described the moment Weber went against her wishes and announced their initial breakup on New Year’s Eve (Flanagan didn’t post until January 3). “I asked him not to do it on New Year’s and I was like, ‘Can you just give me a couple days to tell people?’ “ she said. Flanagan also claimed that ABC recommended they wait until the day before the premiere of Matt James’ Bachelor season to make the announcement.

Flanagan said executives thought people were “excited about other things,” which would distract from the breakup,  but “[Peter] had to do it in 2020.”

Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell Aren’t Over, After All https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/matt-james-and-rachael-kirkconnell-arent-over-after-all.html Wed, 28 Apr 2021 17:55:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/matt-james-and-rachael-kirkconnell-arent-over-after-all.html [ad_1]

It would be an understatement to call the most recent season of The Bachelor dramatic, even on a franchise known for scandal. Having Matt James as the show’s first Black male lead brought to the surface contestant Rachael Kirkconnell’s racially insensitive actions. The mishandling of that fallout was so bad that longtime host Chris Harrison actually stepped away from his role. Things only got more complicated when  Kirkconnell won the season, leaving many to wonder if the relationship could be salvaged after so many challenges.

Well, love never dies. “I’ve seen Rachael a handful of times,” James told People on April 28. “I’m not pursuing any relationships right now outside of that. I said I was going to focus on my relationship with her and that means focusing on it.”

This is a total 180 from what he said on the After the Final Rose special, when he revealed the two had broken up. That said, they were apparently spotted together in New York and Los Angeles since then. Breaking up is hard to do!

As for whether Kirkconnell is taking the necessary steps to learn from her past mistakes, James said, “That’s something you could talk to her about.” On that After the Final Rose special, he seemed hopeful that Kirkconnell was the type of person who could learn, grow and change, telling her, “The work and reconciliation that needs to be done is work that I can’t do for you…. And I know that you’re capable of doing it.”

Speaking of Bachelor Nation folks in hot water: Former franchise lead Colton Underwood recently came out as gay and was greeted by a wave of support. However, it was followed by backlash when members of Bachelor Nation tried to get his upcoming reality series canceled because he’d been accused of harassment in a past relationship…which started on the show.

I Am Nervous as Hell About Emmanuel Acho Joining Bachelor Nation https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/i-am-nervous-as-hell-about-emmanuel-acho-joining-bachelor-nation.html Mon, 08 Mar 2021 20:30:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/i-am-nervous-as-hell-about-emmanuel-acho-joining-bachelor-nation.html [ad_1]

On his popular video series Uncomfortable Conversations With a Black Man, former Cleveland Browns linebacker and New York Times best-selling author Emmanuel Acho tackles charged racial issues with white folks, sometimes famous, who don’t quite get it. So he’s more than prepared for his latest gig: hosting The Bachelor‘s “After the Final Rose” episode on Monday, March 15.

Acho is a newcomer to Bachelor Nation—he’s even turned down multiple offers to appear on The Bachelorette before—but he’ll be taking over while host Chris Harrison takes a “step back” from the franchise following an interview in which he defended Rachael Kirkconnell, a contestant on this season of The Bachelor who was called out for past racist behavior including attending an “Old South”–themed party.

There’s no doubt in my mind Acho will do well in this new role. He knows how to treat white people gently and explains issues of race better than most. He gets through to people—and, God willing, he can get through to Bachelor Nation. My concern: How will The Bachelor treat Acho?

I’m a relatively new member of Bachelor Nation, but my love of reality TV goes deep. I’ve seen every episode of Vanderpump Rules at least three times; after yet another rewatch in quarantine, my partner’s sister convinced me that the illusive mix of villainy, ridiculousness, and earnest bad behavior that makes my love for VPR so strong also exists in the Bachelor franchise. And, hey, I had the time. One quarantine year roughly equals four regular life years, so I’ve been able to mainline quite a bit of the franchise. But watching almost a dozen seasons spread across The Bachelor, Bachelor in Paradise, and The Bachelorette in a relatively short period of time has shown me, again and again, that the franchise doesn’t take proper care of its Black contestants.

Pick a season, any season out of 40, and you’re likely to find objectionable behavior being inflicted on a member of the Black community. Let’s set aside the fact that it took 18 years for the show to feature a Black lead, instead opting to offer up a series of visually similar white dudes including Brad Womack twice. When we finally got Matt James this season, he spent a significant chunk of the first episode reminding Harrison, and all of us at home, that he was a biracial man raised by a white woman. While there’s nothing wrong with honoring both sides of someone’s dual ethnicity, it felt strange to watch the first Black Bachelor working overtime to remind us he was also white.

Clare Crawley and Dale Moss Were Spotted Holding Hands After Their Messy Breakup https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/clare-crawley-and-dale-moss-were-spotted-holding-hands-after-their-messy-breakup.html Wed, 17 Feb 2021 19:42:57 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/clare-crawley-and-dale-moss-were-spotted-holding-hands-after-their-messy-breakup.html [ad_1]

One month after the breakup that rocked Bachelor Nation, Clare Crawley and Dale Moss were spotted holding hands and having a grand old time in Florida. So, are they officially back on or just testing the waters? Here’s what we know.

After Crawley exited her own season of The Bachelorette with Moss, things seemed to be going well. The two were all over social media together, and there were even some wedding rumors floating around.

Things seemed serious until Moss unexpectedly announced their breakup via a “mutual” announcement in January. “I wanted to share with you all that Clare and I have decided to go our separate ways. We appreciate the love and support we’ve received from so many people, but this is the healthiest decision for both of us at this time,” he said on January 19 in a since-deleted post.

However, it seemed like Clare Crawley was actually blindsided by Dale Moss’s post. She wrote on her own Instagram January 21, “I was made aware of a ‘mutual’ statement at the same time you all were, so I’ve needed some time to really digest this.”

That’s when things started getting a little messy. In an emotional 11-minute Instagram Live video January 30, the Bachelorette contestant admitted to feeling “fucking wrecked” and was carrying “so much guilt” over the entire situation.

“This has fucking rocked me. I felt so many emotions, so much guilt, but also so much confusion, so much hurt, and I know that we both have,” he said. “And looking for so many answers before this even happened on how to make things better. But the reality of it is, life isn’t perfect. And we make mistakes. I’ve made a lot of them; I know we all do.”

Now, things may be looking up. On February 16, TMZ shared photos of the former couple sharing a drink at Nokomo’s Sunset Hut in Nokomis, Florida, nearly one month post-breakup. That same day, Bachelor expert and spoiler extraordinaire, Reality Steve, posted photos and a video of the pair looking happy and even holding hands sans masks.

As for us, we’re simply awaiting the next Instagram statement.

Chris Harrison Stepping Down From ‘The Bachelor’: The Controversy, Explained https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/chris-harrison-stepping-down-from-the-bachelor-the-controversy-explained.html Tue, 16 Feb 2021 19:52:43 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/chris-harrison-stepping-down-from-the-bachelor-the-controversy-explained.html [ad_1]

The Bachelor franchise is synonymous with the name Chris Harrison, who’s hosted both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette since their premieres in 2002 and 2003, respectively, plus the spin-off Bachelor in Paradise. But Harrison recently announced he’s “stepping back” from the program. Here’s what’s going on:

First, some context.

If you’re not an avid Bachelor watcher, you might not know the current franchise lead, Matt James, is the first Black Bachelor in the show’s history. ABC announced this news in summer 2020, as Black Lives Matters protests erupted all over the country and the show came under fire for its lack of diversity. Because of James’s unique position, people were especially attuned to possible racial biases among the contestants.

Which leads us to Rachael Kirkconnell…

Rachael K., one of the women vying for James’s heart, attended an “Old South” party with her sorority when she was in college. Fans were quick to point out this was, at the least, an error in judgment on Kirkconnell’s part. Participating in an event like that is insensitive and, to many, offensive.

Harrison’s response to the story

As backlash grew, Harrison went on Extra to address the story, appearing (virtually) with Rachel Lindsay, who broke barriers on the show as the first Black Bachelorette in 2017. “These girls got dressed up and went to a party and had a great time; they were 18 years old. Now, does that make it okay? I don’t know, Rachel, you tell me,” Harrison said. “Were we all looking through [that lens] in 2018?”

Harrison added, “This judge, jury, executioner thing where people are just tearing this girl’s life apart and diving into her parents, her parents’ voting record…. Until I actually hear this woman have a chance to speak, who am I to say any of this? I saw a picture of her at a sorority party five years ago, and that’s it.”

In a statement posted to their Instagram pages, many of the current contestants on The Bachelor voiced their support for Rachel Lindsay, whom they felt Harrison talked over in the Extra segment, and collectively denounced racism and any defense of it. Lindsay responded, saying the message “[meant] everything” to her.

Kirkconnell and Harrison both apologized.

Pretty much immediately after, both main players in this story posted apologies online. Kirkconnell took responsibility for her mistake and promised to earn forgiveness through future actions, not just by saying sorry now. She also reposed the statement in support of Lindsay.

Harrison wrote in his own statement, “What…I have done is cause harm by wrongly speaking in a manner that perpetuates racism, and for that I am so deeply sorry. I also apologize to my friend Rachel Lindsay for not listening to her better on a topic she has firsthand understanding of.”

It’s unclear for how long, but we know for sure Harrison won’t be hosting this year’s “After the Final Rose” special.

Rachel Lindsay called Chris Harrison’s leave of absence the right move.

“Like he said, he needs to take time to get educated and on a profound and productive level to use his word,” she told Extra, per People. “And I think he needs to understand what was done, what was wrong, and what he said in that interview, and he needs time. He’s stepped away to do that.”

She continued, “I think [the interview] was a moment for people to recognize what was being said and to learn and grow from it, which is what we’re seeing happen now with Chris.”

This post will be updated as the situation evolves.

Chris Harrison Is Stepping Down From ‘The Bachelor’ Amid Ongoing Racism Controversy https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/chris-harrison-is-stepping-down-from-the-bachelor-amid-ongoing-racism-controversy.html Sat, 13 Feb 2021 20:29:48 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/chris-harrison-is-stepping-down-from-the-bachelor-amid-ongoing-racism-controversy.html [ad_1]

Chris Harrison, the host of The Bachelor franchise for almost two decades, is stepping down temporarily amid ongoing controversy over a recent interview with former Bachelorette, Rachel Lindsay.

Earlier this week, Harrison spoke with Lindsay on Extra about controversial pictures that surfaced of current contestant Rachael Kirkconnell attending an “Old South”–themed party. “I saw a picture of her at a sorority party five years ago, and that’s it,” he said, in part, per Us Weekly. “These girls got dressed up and went to a party and had a great time, they were 18 years old. Now, does that make it okay? I don’t know Rachel, you tell me. Were we all looking through [that lens] in 2018?”

Fans and members of Bachelor Nation—including the women of Bachelor Matt James’ current season—have spoken out in support of Lindsay and denouncing Harrison’s “defense of racism”. A few days later, the host apologized for “speaking in a manner that perpetuates racism” as well as for not listening to Lindsay on the subject.

Now, on February 13, Chris Harrison has apologized a second time and announced he will be stepping down temporarily in hopes that “this historic season of The Bachelor”—James is the franchise’s first Black Bachelor—will not be “marred or overshadowed” by his actions.

“I have spent the last few days listening to the pain my words have caused, and I am deeply remorseful. My ignorance did damage to my friends, colleagues and strangers alike. I have no one to blame but myself for what I said and the way I spoke,” he wrote in his Instagram statement. “I set standards for myself, and have to meet them. I feel that with every fiber of my being. Now just as I taught my children to stand up, and to own their actions, I will do the same.”

He continued, “By excusing historical racism, I defended it. I invoked the term ‘woke police,’ which is unacceptable. I am ashamed over how uninformed I was. I was so wrong.”

The 49-year-old went on to apologize specifically to the Black community and the BIPOC community. “I am so sorry. My words were harmful. I am listening, and I truly apologize for my ignorance and any pain it caused you,” Harrison wrote. “I want to give my heartfelt thanks to the people from these communities who I’ve had enlightening conversations with over the past few days, and I am so grateful to those who have reached out to help me on my path to anti-racism.”

Harrison revealed that he spoke to Warner Bros. and ABC and decided to step down “for a period of time” and will not appear on the After the Final Rose special. It is unclear when he will be returning.

“I am dedicated to getting educated on a more profound and productive level than ever before,” he promised. “I want to ensure our cast and crew members, to my friends, colleagues and our fans: this is not just a moment, but a commitment to much greater understanding that I will actively make every day.”

Harrison concluded, “From here I can only try to evolve and be a better man, and I humble myself before all of you. I hope I will again live up to the expectations you all rightfully have for me and the expectations I have for myself.”

The Women of ‘The Bachelor’ Are Speaking Out in Support of Rachel Lindsay https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-women-of-the-bachelor-are-speaking-out-in-support-of-rachel-lindsay.html Fri, 12 Feb 2021 14:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-women-of-the-bachelor-are-speaking-out-in-support-of-rachel-lindsay.html [ad_1]

If you follow the residents of Bachelor Nation on Instagram, you might have noticed the same message of support for Rachel Lindsay popping up in your feed over and over. That’s because the women of this season of The Bachelor have posted a joint statement addressing a recent controversy over contestant Rachael Kirkconnell’s alleged racist actions, as well as Bachelor host Chris Harrison’s failure to properly denounce intolerance when given the opportunity.

In short, a tale of two Rach(a)el’s. Here’s everything you need to know about how this all played out, and how the people involved have responded.

Current Bachelor Matt James is the first Black man to lead the franchise; Rachel Lindsay broke that barrier on The Bachelorette a couple years ago. But while Lindsay’s season was (mostly) race-drama-free, it’s been an issue this year because of recently surfaced photos and stories involving contestant Rachael Kirkconnell, known on the show as Rachael K. It seems back in her sorority days, Kirkconnell attended an “Old South”–themed party

This is problematic because, whatever the intention, it glorifies the culture of the antebellum South plantations, where white people enslaved others. Had these photos come to light during a season with a white lead, it still should have caused a stir: Wrong is wrong.

ABC

A few days after these pictures came to light, Harrison appeared on Extra alongside Lindsay to talk about the controversy…and then side-stepped it. After asking for “understanding” and “compassion” on Kirkconnell’s behalf, Harrison said, “I have seen some stuff online—this judge, jury, executioner thing where people are just tearing this girl’s life apart and diving into her parents, her parents’ voting record…. Until I actually hear this woman have a chance to speak, who am I to say any of this? I saw a picture of her at a sorority party five years ago, and that’s it,” per Us Weekly.

While the sentiment of patience and grace is, overall, not a bad attitude to take, he failed to acknowledge that there was anything to get upset over in the first place, asking, “These girls got dressed up and went to a party and had a great time, they were 18 years old. Now, does that make it okay? I don’t know Rachel, you tell me. Were we all looking through [that lens] in 2018?”
