Shawn Mendes Says He Gets in the ‘Worst Little Arguments’ With Camila Cabello

After two years of dating, Shawn Mendes has revealed that his relationship with Camila Cabello is not all duets and hand-holding.

In a new interview on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, which was posted on August 19, the “Stitches” singer revealed that he and the Cinderella star get in the “worst little arguments” but always find their way back.

“We definitely fight, and we get in like the worst little arguments, but like, I think that we definitely are pretty good at picking up on when it’s just ego talking,” Mendes said, per Elle. “And we usually call each other out. It’s, we have a really honest and open relationship, but we definitely fight. I think the longer the relationship goes, the easier it seems to be to fight. So, yeah, it’s definitely not that, holding hands all the time, but we’re really good with each other. It never gets bad. It’s always like a little fight.”

This is not the first time Mendes reflected on how he and Cabello handle conflict. In June 2021 the pop star shared a mid-fight moment that left him completely shaken. “I raised my voice at her and she was like, ‘I don’t like it when you raise your voice. Why did you raise your voice?’ And I got so defensive,” he recalled on the Man Enough podcast, per People. “I was like, ‘I wasn’t raising my voice at you!’ And I did raise my voice at her. And I felt her shrink and I felt me grow and I was like, ‘Oh, God, this is the worst.’ I’m so terrified of being evil. I’m so scared to be bad.”

Even after a “massive conversation” about the incident, Mendes didn’t feel like he handled it well and apologized. “I made it about my evil and my fear, and she comforted me,” he continued. “And then it took me like 20 minutes of us separately reading our books to be able to come back to her and be like, ‘God, that was a whole thing and I’m really sorry.’ You think you’re being vulnerable and saying the right thing, but you’re really just defending yourself even better.”

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello confirmed their relationship around July 2019 and have been posting make-out videos and gushing about each other in interviews ever since.

“She is completely all in or nothing,” he told SiriusXM in December 2020. “And I think that’s something that I wasn’t at the beginning of our relationship. And I think that a lot of people maybe are afraid to be all in, because if you’re all in, then you kind of, it hurts it. The blow hurts that much more if it ends, you know? But she really teaches me that if we have one life and we don’t have much time here, it might as well be all in if you’re in love with someone and you’re there.”

He continued, “And I kind of learned that every day. She’s so absolutely patient with me, especially when I’m stressed or anything is kind of getting to me. She’ll text me. And if I ever am kind of just being bite-y with her and she’d be like, ‘It’s okay. I love you. No matter what, I love you, no matter what.’ And it’s like, that’s real strength and patience and love. But it’s amazing. It’s like a movie.”
