Hayley Kiyoko’s Self-Care Is Taking an Edible and Going Online Shopping

[ad_1]

Hayley Kiyoko is one of the few out and proud pop stars in the LGBTQIA+ community, but she wasn’t always this fearless. As a teenager, the “What I Need” singer says she struggled to find the courage just to get through everyday life. A perhaps unlikely source of support: her favorite fragrance, Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden

“I remember very specifically relying on my perfume,” she tells Glamour. “I was probably the girl who wore way too much to school, but that was my armor. It made me feel confident and attractive, even if I wasn’t getting validation from others, or my crushes didn’t like me back. It was a way of self-love.”

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that when Kiyoko was asked to create her own fragrance, she couldn’t pass on the opportunity. “I would love to give that armor to someone else,” she says.

And she will. Her debut gender-neutral fragrance, Hue, made in partnership with Slate Brands, launches March 3. “We’re all in our sweatpants. We’re all not leaving the house. We’re not seeing anybody. Where do you get your comfort?” Kiyoko says. “Sometimes you want to feel great about yourself and you want to smell good.”

And Hayley Kiyoko isn’t finding comfort in just fragrances these days. A whole slate of self-care products, shoes, and TV shows are keeping her spirits up during These Times. Read Glamour‘s latest installment of Your Fave’s Faves, below, to learn more.

The self-care products I’m living for

Aesop hand wash. I have that in my bathroom, and it’s my moment of washing my hands and feeling like I’m in a spa. I also love taking baths now, so I love the Dr. Teal’s Epsom salts. I’m basically striving to just constantly be in a spa and make my home feel like the Four Seasons. Also, basic face cleanser—I love Kate Somerville moisturizing cleanser. I love all the Kate Somerville products. I’ve just been taking time to really value and elevate the basic necessities of hygiene.

What I’m buying online

It’s really bad. I’ll take an edible at night and just start browsing on Amazon. I fill up my cart, and then the next morning, I’ll be like, “What did I just do?” I miss shopping!

I recently got the Always Pan, which I’m obsessed with. It’s this all-inclusive one pan you can do everything with. I love that pan. It’s a great pan.

The comfort food I’m cooking

I’ve been focused on making sukiyaki; it’s this melting pot of yumminess. I’ve mastered it, and it’s so, so yummy. You eat it out of the pan; I cook it on the stove, and then I put it on my dining table and eat the food with chopsticks out of the pan.

The shoes I’m living in

My Ugg slippers. That’s my dress-up! I have these slippers with fur on the inside, but the heel is open so you have easy access in and out. But they have hard soles, so they’re great for taking out the trash but also being inside. Those are my going-out shoes.

My style essentials

I have this cute flannel I got from Urban Outfitters. It’s emerald green on the outside and pink on the inside, which I love and is my throw-on jacket that I wear. I’ve been wearing a lot of my Puma sportswear, so I feel like I worked out but I really didn’t, and I’m just wearing it around the house. I’m doing this whole athleisure thing where I have my Puma thin zip-up jacket and my shorts. And my Uggs, of course.

My favorite jeans…for when I wear jeans

I’ve worn my jeans maybe, like, three times in quarantine, but I always felt really great wearing them. Like, why don’t I wear these more often? I love my Levi 501s. They’re super cozy and comfortable. They’re definitely how I dress up now, like, “Today, you’re special. I’m going to wear my jeans for you.”

What my streaming queue looks like

I’ve been on this crazy reality binge. I started watching The Amazing Race, and there’s 30-something seasons and I’ve probably watched 15 seasons during all of 2020. Even last night I had a dream I was in Amazing Race and yelling at my mom because she was my partner and needed to hurry up. I also just started watching Your Honor on Showtime, which is really interesting.

The rom-coms I’m watching in February

I’m just obsessed with Sandra Bullock and I love Drew Barrymore, so I’ll start off with The Proposal and then I’ll do Never Been Kissed. I love Julia Roberts, as well, so I’ll do Runaway Bride.

My current Spotify lineup

Chappell Roan. She has this song called “Pink Pony Club,” and it’s literally my anthem. I blast it in my apartment and scream it at the top of my lungs. I’ve been loving some of the new Miley Cyrus music, so I’ve been listening to her album as well.
