Dakota Johnson Just Wore the Sparkliest Bejeweled Dress on the Red Carpet

Dakota Johnson is always surprising us, from her honesty with talk show hosts to her relationship with limes and, of course, her fabulous fashion. On Wednesday, October 13, Johnson attended the London premiere of her latest film, The Lost Daughter, in yet another stunning look.

For the premiere, the actor wore a light beige long sleeve gown with multiple dramatic details (it is Libra season, after all), including bedazzling, exaggerated shoulder pads, and feathered sleeves. Johnson paired the busy–in a good way–gown with simple accessories and beauty: barely-there heeled sandals with a pointed sole, long silver earrings, and fresh makeup with her hair worn down in natural waves (and bangs, as always).

The Lost Daughter is Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut, and it’s based on the book by Elena Ferrante. Dakota Johnson stars alongside Olivia Colman, Ed Harris, Peter Sarsgaard, Dagmara Dominczyk, Jessie Buckley, and Paul Mescal.

The Lost Daughter has already received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics, with a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Gyllenhaal in particular is getting a lot of positive reviews for her confident and ambitious directorial debut that is an honest, emotional story about motherhood.

Here’s the film’s synopsis, from Netflix: “Alone on a seaside vacation, Leda (Olivia Colman) becomes consumed with a young mother and daughter as she watches them on the beach. Unnerved by their compelling relationship (and their raucous and menacing extended family), Leda is overwhelmed by her own memories of the terror, confusion, and intensity of early motherhood. An impulsive act shocks Leda into the strange and ominous world of her own mind, where she is forced to face the unconventional choices she made as a young mother and their consequences.”

In September, Johnson told Vanity Fair, “Maggie [Gyllenhaal] allowed me the opportunity and gave me the guidance to go deeper into my artistry, into myself, into my work.” She continued, “I’m astonished by her work and the performances in this film. It’s so honest and it’s such a raw truth about motherhood and being a woman.”

The Lost Daughter drops on Netflix on December 31 and will have a limited theatrical release in the United States starting December 17.
