Baby Archie Just Spoke Publicly for the First Time on Meghan and Harry’s New Podcast

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s son Archie has officially made his speaking debut—and yes, his little voice is the cutest thing ever.
On December 29, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex delighted fans when they released their highly-anticipated first episode of Archwell Audio on Spotify, less than one month after the streaming giant announced its multiyear deal with the royal couple.
The holiday special featured a number of famous guests including Elton John, Tyler Perry, tennis pro Naomi Osaka, James Corden, Deepak Chopra, and more. However, the most important guest of all was their one-year-old son, Archie, who made a very special—and surprising—appearance.
The littlest royal came on at the very end of the episode after his parents spoke about a song they played at the end of their wedding, “This Little Light of Mine,” which also played as Prince Harry and Markle said goodbye to listeners and ended their very first podcast episode.
The Duchess explained, “It was the music that we wanted playing when we started our lives together. Because as we all know, ‘darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that…'”
Prince Harry continued, “The message of this song is one we hold so dearly. It’s about using the power we each have within us to make this world a better place…Happy New Year, everyone.”
After Meghan Markle echoes the holiday well-wishes, Prince Harry can be heard saying to Archie, “You can speak into [the mic].”
“Archie, is it fun?” Markle asks, to which the one-year-old adorably repeats the word fun.
Prince Harry then leads Archie to say, “Happy New Year.” He says, “After me. Ready? Happy,” he tells to his son, who then says, “Happy.” The proud parents then add, “New,” to which Archie says, “New…Year,” finishing the sentence all on his own.
Prince Harry was so proud that he even excitedly exclaimed, “BOOM!”—reiterating the trademark moment from his infamous mic drop video with Queen Elizabeth II in 2016.

Archie’s speaking debut comes amid news that Prince Harry and Markle gave back this holiday season by purchasing 100 hats from Make Give Live—the New Zealand organization behind the iconic beanie that Archie wore in the couple’s Instagram video reflecting on 2019.
“They said that they wanted to help our members continue to enjoy making, connecting and supporting each other which has never been as important as now,” Make Give Live wrote on Instagram on December 28, noting that their “buy one, give one” business model means Prince Harry and Markle’s purchase will allow them to create 200 hats for families in need.
The organization added, “Meghan & Harry have generously given us a gift that will keep on giving well beyond this Christmas.”
